So far, ten people have tested positive between the Majorera island and Gran Canaria, all linked to the same coronavirus outbreak.

The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, has estimated at one hundred people are currently quarantined in the Canary Islands due to the outbreak registered at a family party in Fuerteventura, for being close contacts of the ten positives that were detected.

Trujillo has asked "not to let your guard down" in a situation that "although it is controlled, it is not extinguished", hence it was stressed that "it is essential" to maintain security and distance measures to avoid outbreaks. In the case of the family party, she pointed out that about 40 people attended and "no prevention measures were taken for Covid-19."

Now, the tracking teams continue to study possible contacts in both Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, from where some people who were at that party travelled to attend the family reunion.

"Well Controlled" Positives

Likewise, Trujillo highlighted the capacity demonstrated by the Fuerteventura Health Area to attend to all possible cases, since it is the island "most affected by positives imported by immigrants who are well controlled and conveniently isolated."
