The island has in these first summer dates, based on the unofficial registers of the seven municipalities, almost 161,100 residents, with a decrease in consequence in relation to the sum of just a year ago, made with the same criteria, which reached be 162,500 residents globally. The decrease in the registry in about 1,400 residents makes the current value very similar to that considered at the end of 2019.

The decrease is due, according to several local workers, to the fact that the registers have been refined in recent months, with the loss of citizens, mainly foreigners, of whom there is no longer evidence of stay on Lanzarote soil. In addition, it also seems that the pandemic has weighed, given that as the economy contracted and jobs were lost, workers who have chosen to try in other territories have been terminated.

Arrecife remains the municipality with the highest population weight, with just over 64,800 residents, although with a notable decrease in relation to dates not too distant, considering that there have been periods when the capital has had up to 66,000 residents registered.

Teguise repeats as the second area with the highest number of residents, being one of the two municipalities that maintains the usual upward trend of previous years. This territory has more than 23,500 residents, with an increase of almost 300 people.

San Bartolomé is the third municipality in terms of population, with just over 21,700 inhabitants recognized on these dates, according to the inquiries made by this newspaper. About 200 residents are lost when this summer's record is compared to last summer's count.

As for Tías, it should be noted that this municipality is in an intermediate position in the island context, as a consequence of having just over 21,250 residents. This value is almost identical to the one released in July of last year.

In fifth position in terms of relevance of the population weight, Yaiza repeats, with the particularity that the current register is limited to adding some 17,500 residents, when last year there were dates with 18,000.

Tinajo is the penultimate territory of the island in terms of the census, with just over 6,500 residents in these first days of July, this sum being very similar to the one that occurred last summer.

Finally, it should be noted that Haría is once again the Lanzarote municipality with the lowest number of neighbors, although it is true that this summer this northern area has more residents than recently. The register of these days here is made up of almost 5,700 residents.

As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that this century has been constant to have more men than women, as a direct consequence of the fact that the male population has predominated over the female in the seven municipalities. In this last count, however, the peculiarity is observed that in San Bartolomé men are already a minority. In general, at the beginning of the summer on the island there are about 81,350 men, and 79,750 women.
