The La Palma forest fire has forced the evacuation of more than 4,000 people while an improvement in the containment of the fire perimeter, which is still not controlled, means that the affected hectares are 4,765.
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, explained that despite the "voracity" of the fire in the first hours, it has been possible to contain its perimeter, although "it continues to be out of control."
He has pointed out that the evacuations have been met with resistance from the population, which he has asked to pay attention to the security forces and bodies that want to ensure their integrity for their safety.
Before nightfall, the first seaplane arrived from Málaga was able to act on the fire and during the early hours of the morning the second will arrive, which will start operating first thing in the morning.
During the day, 400 ground troops and 13 aerial means have worked to extinguish the fire, which will also be acting tomorrow.
Clavijo has highlighted that the drop in temperature, the increase in humidity and that the wind is not blowing as strong as expected, are positive factors in the work of extinguishing the fire in which 100 ground troops are expected to participate tonight .
In addition to the population centre of Tijarafe, the direction of the firefighting work has ordered the evacuation of the municipality of Puntagorda, with a population of 2,293 inhabitants.
