The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, celebrated yesterday "the magnificent news" that Germany and the United Kingdom consider the Canary Islands as a safe area and eliminate restrictions.

Germany have already 71 flights scheduled for next week by the airlines Condor, TUI, Ryanair, Easyjet and Lufthansa, with a total of 13,000 weekly seats.

With regard to the United Kingdom, the schedule for next week is 92 flights and 18,000 seats. In total there are 163 flights and 31,000 seats.

Castilla was convinced that in both countries there will be a reactivation of demand. However, he warned that the demand in Europe in general for travel is weakened, and although, he said, the Canary Islands play with a great advantage by being the only winter sun destination with capacity and European sanitary standards, he advocated being prudent and do not wait for high levels of influx in the coming months, although they are important to start recovering the sector and confidence in the destination.

To do this, the Minister of Tourism announced that "we are working hard on new measures to be applied in the Islands that help us build trust" and that she hopes will be implemented next week. "We seek to protect ourselves and consolidate our status as a safe destination in a stable manner," he said.

Castilla trusts that "soon we will also leave the warning list of other countries until we become a totally safe territory with a green traffic light and I hope that with measures that will help prevent new outbreaks from occurring."

Along with Germany and the United Kingdom, the list of countries that does not object to trips to the islands, nor restrictive measures on the return, is made up of Sweden (whose main tour operator also resumes operations this Saturday), Austria, Belgium, France, Portugal or Czech Republic, among others.
