The Special Group for Underwater Activities of the Las Palmas Command has carried out a series of inspections in the areas of prevention and administrative control in various companies and diving centres in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote during the months of April, May and June.
The Guardia Civil points out that the main objective of these inspections is to update the data of the diving centres and clubs that the Guardia Civil is aware of, as well as to register new ones that have been registered. These inspections are intended to verify that every club or centre dedicated to diving is in compliance with current regulations.
Lanzarote
In April, an inspection and control operation was carried out in diving centres on the island of Lanzarote, with a total of 42 inspections being carried out in the diving centres and clubs, some of them on site.
In this type of check, the Civil Guard has the capacity to cover administrative control in the premises where the company or sports association is established, and control of the development of the activity in the place where it is carried out, usually in known diving sites, from the coast.
In total, 26 administrative violations of various kinds were detected , such as not having a vessel clearance document (3 violations), not having the authorization of the Vice-Ministry of Fisheries to Decree 35/2006 regulating diving centers and underwater sports training (20 violations) and another 3 violations referred to Industry for not having an annual (visual) or five-year (contrast) inspection of bottles or compressor, leading to the sealing of a compressor in a diving center.
