The employers' association is concerned about the low occupancy rate in Lanzarote in the early stages of summer. "We thought that in July we were going to have some figures that were at least intermediate, between what was a record 2023 and the figures for 2019, but with our forecasts for the first days of the month, we will see if we can exceed 80% ," explained Susana Pérez in an interview with Radio Lanzarote.
Pérez, who has just been re-elected as head of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, revealed that her forecasts for July at the beginning of the month did not reach 80% occupancy .
The president of the Tourism Federation expects that the second half of July will push the occupancy figures upwards. “It will grow, but we don’t know if it will reach last year’s occupancy. We hope to reach at least 82% .” Last year, the figure was 86%.
Among the possible causes of this decline, Pérez highlights several temporary events that occurred this month such as the European Championship , for which “many European clients have opted, among other destinations, to go to Germany and enjoy this sporting event.”
“The Olympic Games will also be inaugurated in Paris in the coming days, on continental territory, and for many potential travellers this is a very attractive offer,” adds Pérez.
In the specific case of the British market , the president of the employers' association explains that "they have just come out of an electoral process that always creates uncertainty. Once the process has finished, it has been seen that reservations have been reactivated a little from this market."
