Lanzarote Resists The Tourist Recession

In spite of the bad tourism figures and the setbacks suffered with the collapse of Thomas Cook and the closure of the Lanzarote base of Ryanair, the arrival of tourists to the island has only dropped by 1.2% in December and 0.5% throughout the year.

The number of travelers by airports during the past year are as follows: Gran Canaria, 13,261,405 (-2.3%); Tenerife South, 11,168,506 (+ 1.1%); Lanzarote, 7,292,720 (-0.5%); Tenerife North, 5,840,483 (+ 6.3%); Fuerteventura, 5,635,330 (-7.9%); La Palma, 1,483,720 (+ 4.5%); El Hierro, 268,900 (+ 8.8%) and La Gomera, with 77,585 passengers and the largest percentage increase, 25.3% more.
