The hospitality, commerce and other services sectors account for 85.6% of the 17,081 unemployed on the island

A third of the people who are unemployed in Lanzarote are over 50 years old , according to figures from the Canarian Employment Office published by the Cabildo Data Center.

Specifically, of the 17,081 unemployed on the island at the end of July, a total of 4,144 were between 50 and 59 years old, while 1,504 were between 60 and 65. Thus, 5,648 were unemployed of more than 50 years in Lanzarote, which represents 33% of the total.

As for the rest of the unemployed, 251 people were under 20 years old, 2,908 between 20 and 29 years old, 3,958 between 30 and 39 years old and 4,316 between 40 and 49 years old. Of the total unemployed, more than half are women, specifically 9,129, while 7,952 are men.

By sectors, workers in the hotel industry, commerce and the rest of the service sector account for 85.6% of the unemployed on the island . In the hotel industry there are 5,134 unemployed, while the trade industry is 2,705 and in the rest of services 6,791. They are followed by construction with 1,102 and industry with 417. The number of unemployed people without previous activity is 777.
