The Canary Islands once again beat its own record after a week of unstoppable rise in new infections and surpassing the barrier of 1,000 cases detected on July 23rd. The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has verified 1,670 new cases of covid-19, the highest number of positives in 24 hours since the pandemic began. In addition, the island of Tenerife registered, for the second consecutive day, more than a thousand infections 1,149 to be exact, something that the Executive believes is linked to the circulation of the omicron variant, considered more contagious.


The total accumulated cases in the Canary Islands is 114,062 with 11,253 active, of which 57 are admitted to the ICU and 267 remain hospitalized. In the last hours, 8 deaths have been reported in the Canary Islands, all in Tenerife, four women and four men, aged between 63 and 91 years. All, except one male, suffered from previous pathologies.

The Accumulated Incidence at 7 days in the Canary Islands stands at 305.98 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and at 14 days at 425.51 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

By islands, Tenerife today adds 1,149 cases with a total of 54,636 accumulated cases and 5,987 epidemiologically active cases; Gran Canaria has 42,982 accumulated cases, 358 more than the previous day, and 3,653 active. Lanzarote adds 51 new cases with 8,034 accumulated and 366 epidemiologically active; Fuerteventura has 6,003 accumulated cases, with 81 new cases, and 1,065 active ones. La Palma adds 24 new positives for which it has 1,425 accumulated and 138 assets. El Hierro adds five new positives, so its accumulated are 489 and 17 active cases. La Gomera adds two new cases, so it has 492 and its assets are 27.

To date, a total of 2,536,565 diagnostic tests have been carried out in the Islands, of which 12,923 correspond to yesterday.
