" Saint Patrick is a great celebration in Ireland and also in Puerto del Carmen. We all hope that this exceptional pandemic situation due to covid-19 will improve and we all wish to be able to celebrate with enthusiasm and joy." With these words, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, congratulated the Irish community of the municipality on Wednesday at the emblematic Irish Harbor Bar pub in Puerto del Carmen.
The Irish Consul in Lanzarote, Eileen Izquierdo, and the owner of the pub, Mai Blake, were present at the commemorative act, celebrated in a symbolic way and with limited capacity . The representatives of the Irish community presented the Tías City Council with a small bundle of clovers expressly brought from Ireland and a Waterford crystal clock, of great symbolism for the country.
Cruz Saavedra presented a plaque of appreciation to the Irish community in Lanzarote and expressed his wish "that the economy will soon reactivate." On behalf of the City Council, the second deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, and the councilor for Youth, Cristopher Notario, also attended the event.
